Hero Mark Wilson hopes the fans can be thrilled by England when they face Italy in St James’ Park on Friday.
It is the very first time England have played a Test match and the first they have hosted outside Twickenham within a decade.
Originally from Cumbria, Wilson is a”honorary Geordie” having performed over 200 occasions for Newcastle Falcons.
“North-east lovers want to get amused,” Wilson told BBC Sport.
“That’s the major thing for them. [You think] back in the nineties when Newcastle football were in their finest – .
“Hopefully we could entertain them Friday night”
Prior to making his own introduction in 18, wilson joined the academy as a 14-year-old of Newcastle.
After their relegation last season, he will go to Sale on loan following the Rugby World Cup.
He feels another generation might inspire, and states English rugby have to continue to encourage the match in the country’s north.
“It’s important we still get behind rugby in the north,” he added.
“It is crazy to think [there’s a Test in Newcastle] – if I was a kid the only way to see England was down in Twickenham.
“Thus for a lot of these north-east fans they are all going to be pretty excited about watching England on their doorstep.
“St James’ Park is a class place to playwith, and the air is very good. Hopefully people will come from their numbers and fill it.”
