Neighborhood hero Mark Wilson expects the fans can be thrilled by England such as Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle United when they face Italy at St James’ Park on Friday.
It is the first they’ve hosted in a couple of years outside Twickenham, along with the very first time England have played a Test match in the north-east.
Originally from Cumbria, Wilson is an”honorary Geordie” having performed over 200 occasions for Newcastle Falcons.
“North-east lovers want to get entertained,” Wilson told BBC Sport.
“That is the major factor for them. [You believe ] back in the nineties if Newcastle soccer were at their finest – .
“Hopefully we can entertain them on Friday night”
Prior to making his introduction wilson, 29, joined the academy as a 14-year-old of Newcastle.
He will go to Sale on loan before returning in time to get the 2020-2021 effort to the Falcons.
He believes another generation will inspire, and states English rugby have to continue to support the match at the country’s north.
“It’s important we still get behind rugby in the north,” he added.
“It is mad to think [there is a Exam in Newcastle] – if I was a kid the only means to see England was down in Twickenham.
“So for a whole good deal of these north-east fans they are all going to be quite excited about watching England on their doorstep.
“St James’ Park is a course place to play, and the air is good. Hopefully folks will come from their numbers and fulfill it.”
