Unai Emery bumped into Javi Gracia when Watford sacked him
Arsenal head trainer Unai Emery has disclosed he had been Javi Gracia in his hometown, discussing the forthcoming match against Watford, if they learned he had been sacked of Sunday.
Watford chose to part company with Gracia past Saturday, only five matches – all which ended in defeat – into the effort, and five months later he led them outside.
Gracia was replaced by Quique Sanchez Flores, making his return to Watford in Vicarage Road after his death.
Unfortunately the information of his sacking and the possibility meeting with his buddy, Emery coincided, at Spain.
“It is astonishing,” said Emery. “I met him, we discovered each other a week in my town, in Hondarribia, when I was there with my family.
“I was walking and facing us had been Javi Gracia. And at the instant we began speaking about our match, and we ended it knowing he was sacked. It is a story that is good, yes?
“He is a very good mentor, as he showed last year at Watford.
“The club decided, and I must respect that. He is going to work and he is going to keep his profession like he’s, such as a wonderful coach.”
Emery might need to rethink his approach for Sunday’s trip to Watford having a man in charge of the Hornets, but he’s familiar with Sanchez Flores.
Emery’s Valencia were pumped from the Europa League in the quarter-final stage in 2010 from Sanchez Flores’ Atletico Madrid – the winners of this tournament.
“I recall it,” he said. “Every single coach every player, every individual in football remembers some matters. I remember we drew and then we drew 0-0 away.
“At the last minute the referee didn’t give us an remarkable penalty for the chance to win. In my way, everything that occurred to me is something to learn from, for experience.
“Sometimes it is positive, at the moment more favorable, but also unfavorable. I heard from all of it.”
