Following a litany of lingering criticism surrounding the commerce of Odell Beckham Jr. and anything and everything related to the New York quarterback situation, the Giants seem to have one longtime ill on the road to being patched.
The Giants offensive line enhanced. Eli Manning was sacked 47 occasions, but within the last half of the season was only taken down 16 days, while the attack improved by 78 yards per game.
Much of the credit for that has to go to the play of then-rookie Will Hernandez, since the abandoned guard’s play got better as the season went on and he joined all-everything running back Saquon Barkley on the 2018 NFL All-Rookie Team.
Together with his offseason underway, Hernandez seems poised to solidify himself as one of the reasons behind the New York offensive lineup and has settled .

“It definitely doesn’t even feel as the same time of year I had last year,” Hernandez said via the group website. “It seems like a completely different time of year to me. I feel like I am a lot more comfortable here and I feel like I can breathe. I am not struggling to learn the playbook, down everything, learn everything, make sure I do not mess up. I’m able to enjoy it, but at precisely the exact same time, work hard and get to know these guys better.”
Many consider Hernandez’ advancement will continue in his sophomore season and it is no denying that the Giants’ offensive line as a whole is predicted to perform the same.
Left tackle Nate Solder is expected to return from injury for training camp and Hernandez and he will be joined Mike Remmers and by offseason acquisitions Kevin Zeitler. Zeitler came to the G-Men via a trade with the Browns.
Zeitler’s existence was a blessing thus much for Hernandez.
“He has been phenomenal, not just as a player but as a teacher, too,” Hernandez said. “He has taught a lot of young men, such as myself, a lot of technique. He was one of the greatest pass protectors in the league this past year, so that he certainly has a lot to offer and he’s passing it on to the young men, myself too, and we’re really glad to have him.”
Historically, the transition for linemen — from high school to college and from college to the NFL — has been viewed as one of probably, and the more difficult strategy, because of the physicality, fundamentals learning a different strategy.
In Hernandez’ situation, he got markedly better during the effort and started all 16 games as a rookie. Expect Hernandez to take his game to another level in 2019, perhaps becoming one of the most highly regarded guards around.
“I believe they constantly say from your first to your second year is the largest step in progress,” Solder said. “I have seen a great deal of advancement throughout our entire group, so perhaps you can characterize not only a person but the whole group from one year to 2 years and make a large improvement. Surely our expectations are sky high.”
