Eliud Kipchoge has been the first athlete to run a marathon in under 2 weeks, beating on the mark by 20 seconds.
The Kenyan, 34, covered the 26.2 miles (42.2km) within 1 hour 59 minutes 40 seconds from the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria on Saturday.
As it was not in open contest it will not be recognised as the marathon world record and he used a group of pacemakers.
The winner dropped out in 2017 by 25 seconds in a prior effort.
Knowing that he was going to make history the pacemakers dropped back to allow sprint on the line roared on by a crowd in the capital.
The four-time London Marathon winner adopted his wife Grace, grabbed the Kenyan flag and was mobbed by his pacemakers, for example a lot of the worlds greatest centre and runners.
