Eliud Kipchoge has become the first athlete beating the mark by 20 minutes.
The Kenyan, 34, covered the 26.2 miles (42.2km) within one hour 59 minutes 40 seconds from the Ineos 1:59 Challenge in Vienna, Austria on Saturday.
It will not be recognised as the marathon world record since it wasnt in contest that is open and he utilized a group of rotating pacemakers.
The Olympic winner missed out in 2017 by 25 moments in a prior attempt.
Knowing that he was going to make history in the home the pacemakers fell back to allow sprint over the line alone, roared on by a crowd in the Austrian capital.
Even the London Marathon winner captured the flag, and his wife Grace embraced which was mobbed by his own pacemakers, including many of the worlds best centre and long-lived runners.
