European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has called Robert Karlsson as his first vice-captain for the 2020 contest at Whistling Straits.
Karlsson represented Europe double before returning to play in the defeat at Valhalla 2 years after including at the win at the K Club.
The Swede also functioned alongside Harrington as part of Thomas Bjorn’s backroom team for the 2018 contest, in which Europe ran out convincing 16.5-11.5 winners at Le Golf National.
Karlsson registered three factors for Europe out of his seven matches and was beaten thrashing Justin Leonard in the singles at 2008 and forming an unbeaten venture with Paul Casey throughout the 2006 contest.
The 49-year-old provides a wealth of expertise to the group that is European, and having recorded 11 Tour successes won the European Tour’s Order of Merit.
Qualification for Europe’s next Ryder Cup team gets underway this week together with the effort, in the BMW PGA Championship.
The 2020 Ryder Cup takes place at which Europe will be bidding register just their fifth off success in the biennial contest and to retain the trophy.
