Ryder Cup 2020: Robert Karlsson named as European vice-captain
European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington has called Robert Karlsson because his first vice-captain for the 2020 competition.
Karlsson represented Europe twice in Ryder Cups as a player, including in the record-breaking win at the K Club in 2006 before returning to play at the defeat in Valhalla 2 years after.
The Swede also worked alongside Harrington as a portion of Thomas Bjorn’s backroom staff for its 2018 competition, where Europe ran out persuasive 16.5-11.5 winners in Le Golf National.
Karlsson enrolled three points for Europe and was only beaten in two of them, forming an unbeaten partnership with Paul Casey through the 2006 contest and thrashing Justin Leonard from the singles in 2008.
The 49-year-old brings plenty of experience to the team, previously won the European Tour’s Order of Merit and having recorded 11 European Tour successes.
Qualification for Europe’s next Ryder Cup team will get underway together with the yearlong effort running through to the exact identical event in September 2020.
