Padraig Harrington has cautioned prospective members of his European Ryder Cup group there will be”no excuses” for not playing at the BMW PGA Championship next year.
Qualifying for the group begins this week and ends at Wentworth September, soon before Harrington takes his side to Whistling Straits to defend the Ryder Cup from Steve Stricker’s Team USA.
Harrington is thrilled to see a stellar area teeing it up in the West Course this week, headlined by Rory McIlroy, and he is intent on seeing more of the exact same a year from today when rankings on his team for Wisconsin are likely to still be decided.
“This is a massive part of why it is starting this week and why it’s finishing at the BMW PGA Championship,” said Harrington, soon after hammering Robert Karlsson because his primary assistant captain. “Here will be the flagship event in Europe along with the players develop and take it.
“That is our biggest European event, it’s the one that you want to be there. You’re certain to get a field, which isn’t just important this year, but it’s going to be important come this time that we possess the players playing with the event.
