Cardinals part ways with veteran CB David Amerson

Most teams use the last day of minicamp as a cool until revving again for training camp. The Arizona Cardinals chose to use Thursday to make a move.
The Cardinals released veteran cornerback David Amerson, whom the team signed as a free agent last November.
The move comes as a small surprise to get a team which will be without All-Pro corner Patrick Peterson for your first six matches of the regular season.

Given his experience, Amerson was anticipated to be the one to temporarily take Peterson’s place alongside free-agent signee Robert Alford, but today the staff will seem to second-round draft pick Byron Murphy, veteran Tramaine Brock, or maybe talent elsewhere to be a replacement. The Cardinals do have four other corners on the roster.
Amerson’s release could be a indication that Murphy showed improvement throughout coordinated group activities, per Darren Urban of their team’s official site, allowing Arizona to cut a participant with 61 career starts to his name.
Arizona has yet to declare the corresponding movement but it’s well worth noting that NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier Thursday that the group could be hosting former Miami Dolphins defensive end Andre Branch.
In his lone season with the Cardinals, Amerson, 27, played in six games — five of which he started — and donated 21 tackles, two pass deflections and an interception. The 2013 second-round pick also has made stops with the Redskins and Raiders within his six-year profession.
