Police investigate alleged racist abuse at Hartlepool United match
Cleveland Police are currently investigating an incident at Hartlepool United through which players were allegedly racially abused.
The first half of Pools’ 2-0 National League defeat by Dover in Victoria Park on Saturday was delayed by 11 moments as a consequence of an exchange involving players – including the home team Gus Mafuta – and audiences after Inih Effiong had opened the scoring with a 37th-minute penalty.
A police spokesman explained:”Cleveland Police is investigating these allegations.
“The force works with soccer clubs around the nation, as well as the broader community, to fortify this type of behavior is completely unacceptable. Should it occur, we take robust action using all available tools, such as football banning orders.”
Although both sets of players wanted to continue dover boss Andy Hessenthaler revealed after the game opposite number Craig Hignett had been in agreement and also he was ready to take his team off the pitch.
Hignett later told Pools TV:”That has got no place , we certainly do not condone it.
“Racism not only has no role in soccer, but it doesn’t have any role in life, so if that’s true, then those people have to be taken care of and taken care of seriously because that’s not us as a soccer club.
“We’re a really inclusive club, however when there are dumb individuals, then they will be taken care of in the strongest possible terms”
Hignett was delivered during a game which saw lose Nicky Featherstone and Ryan Donaldson to reddish cards but chief executive Mark Maguire insisted frustration at events on the pitch wasn’t any excuse for the response it off.
Maguire, who revealed he had spoken to the victims of this misuse and assured that the strongest possible action would be taken against the perpetrators, said:”I can honestly state that I have never seen a game of soccer like that but it is important that we separate our response to the game, and the officials, into the events after Dover’s first aim.
“Regardless of the rights and wrongs of this decision or the aftermath to the punishment that was scored, Hartlepool United utterly condemn stereotypical behavior of any description.
“We are proudly inclusive as a team and we know that the huge majority of Pools fans will join us in position against actions and words which have no place in football or society.”
