(CNN) — At least two people were injured following lightning struck a tree at the PGA Tour Championship golf championship in Atlanta, authorities said on Saturday.
Five guys and a girl who sought shelter beneath a tree in a storm in East Lake Golf Club were injured when lightning struck the tree, then Atlanta Police Department spokesman James White stated.
They have been taken to local hospitalsalert, conscious, and breathing, and for further medical treatment, White said.
Saturday evening, one of the wounded was treated at the Northside Hospital and published, said the spokeswoman of the hospital, Katherine Watson.
PGA Tour said in a statement that debris had struck those injured and a few of these were lovers.
When organizers suspended drama due to inclement weather the next round of the PGA Tour Championship was at the East Lake Golf Club on Saturday, the PGA said.
The safety of the fans, players and spouses is of extreme significance, the announcement said.
30 minutes after organizers suspended actions, a shrub and a care area struck close to the range and the tee, Mark Russell, PGAs vice-president of competition, principles and administration, told reporters on Saturday.
The lightning knocked on debris off the shrub he added.
Russell stated everybody encouraged to leave the track and take shelter. In addition, he stated the PGA had placed a message on the warning spectators that severe weather approached.
You have got a lot of folks, and you have to do this fast and sometimes folks do not take refuge, he said.
When asked whether there was a half dozen enough time Russell stated he could not really answer the question but stated theyd done.
I wish I can say yes or no. I meanwe wanted to find everybody, the spectators the volunteers off here as the moment we saw wed hazard, and soon as we could we suspended drama. We had about the scoreboards that there was coming weather, and we got the players off, we got the volunteers off, he said.
All play has been suspended for the day in the season-ending championship in which Justin Thomas contributes Rory McIlroy and also Brooks Koepka. Sunday morning, the tournament is expected to resume.
The PGA Tour Championship was held as 2004 at the East Lake Golf Club. The winner will take home $15 million together with prize money.
