A section of this Inter Milan ultras team’Curva Nord’ have insisted the monkey chants directed at Romelu Lukaku by Cagliari fans weren’t meant to be racist.
Lukaku, who signed from Manchester United Inter last month, required action from the Italian football authorities after he was mistreated during Sunday’s 2-1 win.
A team known as’L’Urlo Della Nord’ state Lukaku”must know” that – from Italy – lovers have”ways only to help our teams and also to attempt to make opponents nervous” – and they don’t think them to be racist.
In a statement on Facebook, the team said:”Hi Romelu, we’re writing you on behalf of Curva Nord, yes the men who welcomed you at your birth in Milan. We’re very sorry you believed was still racist.
“You’ve got to understand that Italy isn’t like a number of other north European countries where racism is a true problem. It’s not like that although we understand that it might have appeared racist to you.
“In Italy we utilize some”ways” just to”assist our crews” and to attempt to create our opponents stressed, maybe not for racism but to jumble them up.
“We are a multi-ethnic buffs organisation and we’ve consistently welcomed players from everywhere. We have used that’manner’ before with other teams’ players and we probably will later on.
“We aren’t racist and therefore are not the Cagliari fans.”
The announcement went on to argue that the struggle against racism should not begin in football stadiums but in universities, which fans behave otherwise in stadiums than at the outside world.
On Tuesday, the Italian league’s disciplinary judge claims he needed more evidence before making a decision if Cagliari should be punished for its chants, that judge Gerardo Mastrandrea did not refer to “racist” in his weekly report.
Lukaku converted the winning penalty in the match, and then glared at home fans behind the goal as they directed the monkey chants at him of Inter.
Everton ahead Moise Kean was subject to racist abuse after he played against Cagliari for Juventus previous year, since was Blaise Matuidi annually before.
