Cardinals part ways with veteran CB David Amerson

Most teams use the last day of minicamp as a cool down until revving up again for training camp. The Arizona Cardinals chose to utilize Thursday to make a move.
The Cardinals released veteran cornerback David Amerson, whom the group signed as a free agent last November.
The move comes as a bit of a surprise for a group that will be without All-Pro corner Patrick Peterson for the first six matches of the regular season.

Given his expertise, Amerson was anticipated to function as one to briefly take Peterson’s place alongside free-agent signee Robert Alford, but today the team will seem to second-round draft pick Byron Murphy, veteran Tramaine Brock, or perhaps talent elsewhere for a replacement. The Cardinals do have four corners on the roster, too.
Amerson’s release could be a sign which Murphy showed improvement throughout organized team activities, per Darren Urban of the group’s official site, allowing Arizona to cut a player with 61 career starts to his title.
Arizona has yet to announce the corresponding movement but it’s worth noting that NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported earlier Thursday that the group could be hosting former Miami Dolphins defensive end Andre Branch.
In his lone season with the Cardinals, Amerson, 27, played in six games — five of which he began — and donated 21 tackles, two pass deflections and an interception. The 2013 second-round pick additionally has made stops with the Redskins and Raiders in his six-year career.
